A lifeline for local organisations
Local organisations struggling with the challenges of Coronavirus are being handed a lifeline thanks to a local housing provider.
Golding Homes, based in Maidstone, are providing funding to key charity partners who have been badly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. The money will help the organisations to continue providing valuable services to help people cope in these challenging times.
So far nine different organisations and charities, including The Salvation Army, Fusion Maidstone and The Stones Community Trust have all benefited from the extra money.
One of those local charities is Maidstone and Mid Kent Mind, who are supporting people to look after their mental health by using the money to provide free remote mindfulness courses for adults and children. With the use of video platform Zoom, the charity will be providing their services virtually offering flexibility to those in need.
Julie Blackmore, Chief Executive Officer at MMK Mind said: “The outbreak of the Coronavirus disease can be very stressful for people. Fear and anxiety about a disease can be overwhelming and cause strong emotions in both adults and children. Whilst we can’t meet face-to-face at present we wanted to continue to help and support others, and the funding from Golding Homes is helping us to do this. With our series of virtual mindfulness sessions, we are still able to reach out to people, helping to improve their mental and physical health.”
Caroline McBride, Head of Community Development at Golding Homes said: “We understand the impact that the Coronavirus pandemic can have on our resident’s wellbeing and mental health. By providing funding to MMK Mind, we are helping the charity to offer valuable remote mindfulness sessions to local people from their own homes.
“The lockdown is affecting many young people and adults who are struggling with periods of self-isolation, including loneliness and a lack of routine. The mindfulness sessions being offered by MMK Mind will help towards combatting the extra pressure that some people are currently feeling.”
