A place to call home for resident Sasha
The new homes in Perry Court Faversham were completed in Summer 2020 and recently had the very first residents move in. We caught up with Sascha, who moved in last month, to see how she is enjoying her first taste of independence in her new home.
Before moving to Perry Court, Sascha was living in Sittingbourne at a foster placement, with her carers and two other people. She was very aware that when she turned 21 later this year the support she was receiving would stop and she would need to find a new place to live. Sascha decided to take positive action and find a place to call her own before this happened. So, at the beginning of the year she began to look for a new home and with the help of her social worker, she found a new build home for affordable rent with Golding Homes and successfully applied through Kent Homechoice.
Sascha got the good news and was told she would be moving into her new house in March, but then had the disappointing news that this would be delayed during the lockdown period for Covid-19. She found this very difficult due to the lack of space in her previous living situation and the emotional toll lockdown took on her. Thankfully another call from Golding Homes in June confirmed the new homes were back on track and thanks to a virtual sign up process she was able to move in last month. (July)
“It was a big relief to finally get the keys 3 weeks ago,” explained Sascha.
This house is the first place Sascha has lived by herself, somewhere to call her own and to make her home and so far, she is really enjoying it. “I love it, I love the space. I love having my own place and being able to do what I want to, not being told what to do”.
Sacha’s new 1 bedroom home is one of the first of 93 new homes in Faversham, being delivered by Golding Homes, working in partnership with Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes.
“Continuing to build new homes was a challenge during the lockdown period,” explains Tom Casey, Director of Development and Sales for Golding Homes. “ But we are really happy to be back on track and helping people like Sascha, moving into a home of her own for the first time, is really satisfying.”
The remaining homes which are due for completion in between now and Spring 2022, include 65 for affordable rent and 28 for sale under our shared ownership scheme which aims to help people take their first steps onto the property ladder.”

Sascha’s new home has given her the freedom and independence she craved, she is able to have a safe home and build a life for herself, and as a newly qualified hairdresser, she is very busy catching up with post-lockdown haircuts!
