Kent Literacy Awards
On Wednesday 10 July, the Kent Literacy Awards announced the county’s best school initiatives helping pupils to develop key skills and fulfill their potential.
The Awards are an opportunity for pupils, parents and teaching staff to showcase the creative and innovative approaches they take to improving children’s literacy levels.
Their efforts were recognised at an awards evening staged at Hempstead House, near Sittingbourne, by the children’s educational charity the KM Charity Team. Altogether 35 awards were presented to primary, secondary, and special schools successfully inspiring pupils to read or express themselves verbally or through the written word.
We were delighted to sponsor the Kent Literacy Awards again this year, through Golding Vision, our community arm. Sarah Leipnik, Community Development Advisor, attended the Presentation evening, presenting four awards. One of the awards was for Best Initiative to Encourage Speaking and Listening Skills, which was presented to Forelands Fields School in Ramsgate for their Makaton Signing Choir. Sarah presented the school with a prize of 11 reading books and 30 Story Time Magazines, donated by Golding Vision.
The Awards call for nominations to showcase initiatives that make a real difference to the success of schools, developing reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. Nominations are accepted from teachers, support staff and management at primary and secondary schools in Kent, Medway, Bromley and Bexley.
