Top tips to make this Christmas more affordable
- Make a budget – Work out exactly how much you can afford and stick to it. This will help to keep spending under control.
- Shop around – The supermarkets are bursting with special offers leading up to Christmas, all trying to win your custom. Shop around for the best deals.
- Grab a bargain – Try looking at local selling sites for second-hand items. Sometimes you can pick up a great quality item for a fraction of its original price.
- Don’t impulse buy – Making a list of items you need to buy will help you avoid impulse buying.
- Make it personal – Think about giving homemade presents as gifts. Present giving can often mean a lot more to family and friends if some thought and time have been taken over it.
- Be wary of loan sharks (illegal money lenders) at this time of year. They often charge very high interest rates. Avoid borrowing money you can't afford to pay back.
