What does this mean?
If a communal alarm sounds, you and your family must leave the block immediately, making your way to the assembly point for your block.
This change from the ‘stay put’ policy is to ensure your safety whilst we continue to investigate your block for any fire safety issues, and because the communal fire alarm system installation is complete.
The alarm will be tested weekly in silent mode, so you won’t hear any testing. This means if you do hear an alarm, it’s because something has activated it, and you should leave your block straight away. On the installation day (mentioned above) the alarm will sound as the engineers from PLP will be checking that all is working as the system goes live. After this, the system will be fully operational. It's essential that you don't touch or interfere with any of the sensors or sounders in your flat or in the communal areas. The system is wireless and will still alert you to any incident, however we need to ensure there are no false alarms.
The fire strategy and alarm system are a temporary measure until any investigations and subsequent fire safety works are completed by the developer. After this time the alarm will be removed, and the Evacuation plan will return to Stay Put. You’ll be informed before any further changes are made and we’ll also update this web page.
The evacuation plan for all our other mid-rise and low-rise buildings is STAY PUT.
If you're alerted to a fire, there are different actions you should take depending on the location of the fire:
Fire in your flat |
Leave your flat, closing all doors behind you and call 999 when safe to do so |
Fire in common areas |
Only leave the building if you are in that area |
Fire in another flat or another part of the building |
Stay in your flat |
If you’re not directly affected by the fire, you can stay in your flat unless directed otherwise by the emergency services.
If at any time you feel under threat, you're of course still free to leave the building.
What's a Personal Escape Plan?
A Personal Escape Plan is what you'd follow in event of a fire in your building.
For your own safety, it’s important you and your family all know what to do in the event of a fire.
If there's anyone in your household who in the event of an emergency, may not be able to quickly reach a place of safety unaided, or may need additional support in the event of a fire, please email building.safety@goldinghomes.org.uk so that we can work with them to make sure they remain safe.
Fire Risk Assessment (FRA)
A fire risk assessment is an inspection of a building and its use, structure and the occupants. It identifies any potential fire safety hazards and risks present and provides recommendations on how those risks can be managed to keep the people living in the building safe.
We’ve been working with a group of engaged customers who live in our buildings to make improvements to these FRAs - making them clearer and easier for everyone to understand.
The fire risk assessment is accurate at the time of inspection. Any issues identified are continually being actioned, so you might see our contractor Arvag Apest in your building.
You can view a copy of the FRA for your building here.
Your building’s fire risk assessment may include some actions, which we'll complete by the due date stated.
