A new boiler for Reg
Our customer Reg McLean had an oil tank to provide heating and hot water for many years. Living alone in a rural bungalow, he’d get this filled once or twice a year, paying in full for the oil each time. Following the pandemic and subsequent cost-of-living crisis, Reg found the cost of filling his oil tank had increased to around £900, which, as a pensioner, he couldn’t afford and meant he’d really struggle to heat his home during winter.
Reg got in touch with us to explain he couldn’t afford the cost of oil and asked about the possibility of having a gas boiler installed instead. We were happy to do this for him and the oil tank was removed, the property was connected to the gas network and a new boiler and gas meter were installed.
Reg said: “Now I’ve got a gas boiler, it’s going to be life changing. Instead of a one-off payment for oil, the cost will be spread over 12 months so it’s more affordable. I’ll wake up in the morning and know the place is warm. Golding Homes has been extremely kind and they certainly take care of me.”
Reg is just one customer who’s benefitted from a £22 million investment in our existing homes this financial year. By April we’ll have improved over 2,000 of our homes by replacing 300 kitchens, 173 bathrooms, 460 boilers, 400 windows, 464 doors and 40 pitched roofs in a year.
Tom Casey, Executive Director of Strategic Asset Management, added: “Our Asset Management Strategy is delivering significant investment in our existing homes. This demonstrates our commitment to making our customers’ homes warmer, safer, healthier and more energy efficient, while also increasing customer satisfaction and reducing the demand for smaller repairs over time.
“I’m really pleased that we’ve been able to help Reg improve the efficiency of his home and make a real difference to him.”
