Redevelopment vision at Shepway taking shape
Maidstone Borough Councillor and local resident Simon Wales was keen to see the progress being made at Golding Homes’ flagship development in Shepway during a recent visit.
This was the second visit for Councillor Wales, the Borough’s portfolio holder for Housing and Homelessness, who noted the scale of the project that will provide homes for around 784 new customers.
Councillor Wales: “This is one of the first major regeneration projects that I’ve seen around the borough. I was here about six months ago for the first dig of the spade. It’s remarkable what’s been achieved.
“But, more than that, I think it’s about building a community and it’s just pleasing to hear about how many things have been going on (with) the work with local schools, because they are going to be part of the community once it’s been built.”
Groundworks are near competition in the first phase of the redevelopment, which when complete will include 236 brand new, energy efficient, affordable new homes and a vibrant shopping area.
Jon Baldwin, Development Manager, Golding Homes said: “We’re delighted Councillor Wales has taken the time to visit the site. So much has been going on onsite in Phase 1 and we’re continue to make good progress. Over the last few months our regeneration team’s been meeting with customers in phase 2 to discuss the process of their move and the support we’ll provide. We’re also engaging with local schools and community groups who are vital to the transformation of this area of Shepway.”
The Shepway regeneration was the winner in the Development and Regeneration category at this year’s Kent Housing Excellence Awards.
