DIY Skills Training for Golding Residents

Local residents got to learn from the experts at a recent DIY workshop, held in Park Wood, Maidstone. Working in partnership with Mitie, our repairs partner, we organised a half day workshop for single parents to help them improve their DIY skills.
Joe Trudgill and Peter Hobbs, who deliver the course on behalf of Mitie, run regular courses for the community on a range of DIY topics from Painting & Decorating to Plumbing.
At the workshop, the residents learnt about the different DIY techniques and picked up some practical painting and decorating tips that they could use in their own homes.
Golding Homes resident Clare Green had recently moved into her new home and she wanted to learn about the different painting techniques so that she could put them to good use when decorating her home. She said: “It was a really informative workshop. Pete and Joe were very professional and answered all our questions. They covered everything I needed to know. I even joined in on a bit of practical painting!”
Park Wood resident Jane Cope, said: “I wanted to come on this course so I could learn some new techniques. Joe and Peter, the trainers, have already taught me where I have been going wrong in the past. I can’t wait to get try out some of the painting tips that I have learnt.”
Mahroof Anwar, Community Investment Manager (Housing), from Mitie worked with our Employment Advisor Amy Dennison to set up the DIY course. He said: “These types of courses are great for residents because they not only learn some basic skills to use in their own homes but they can also build upon these skills if they want to look for employment in these areas.”
We run regular courses for residents. Keep an eye out on our Facebook page (@GoldingHomesLtd) for more information.
