Exploring a career in Child Care

Child Care Course April 2017

Local residents looking for a career in childcare recently took part in a special skills workshop organised by Golding Homes in partnership with response Kent Adult Education.

This one day ‘Introduction to Working with Children’ course, held at the Fusion Healthy Living Centre in Park Wood, helped the students explore the different environments and settings in the children’s sector as well as identifying the qualifications needed to work with children, including the progression routes to further training or employment possibilities.

Amy Dennison is the Employment Advisor at Golding Homes and she is passionate about helping local residents get on the career ladder and realise their goals.  “It’s really important that our residents have access to these types of courses.  This workshop provided an excellent introduction to the childcare industry and we are already planning to run further courses and training schemes to support individuals on their journey into employment.”

Golding Homes’ resident Sherry Johnson saw the course advertised at the Fusion Health Living Centre. She said: “I have recently attended a Youth Leaders training course and thought this course would give me further insight into working with children.  I am also looking to do an online university course in Youth Training to enable me to gain the right qualification to work with young people.  Thank you to response and Golding Homes for running this course.”

Andrea Depury, Adult Education Leader who delivered the course said: “This course is designed to give students a base knowledge of working with children. I can help give advice on what they can do next in order to work with children; whether it be attending more courses such as the Level II NVQ Teaching Assistant course or attending further one day sessions to increase their knowledge.”

Golding Homes delivers a range of work skills courses, ranging from DIY to learning basic digital skills. You can keep up to date with what is coming up on our Facebook page.

Golding Homes and response are looking to run a one day First Aid Course, and a Food Hygiene course. For anyone interested in attending these please contact Amy Dennison on 0300 777 2600.
