Families enjoy half term fun at new Community Centre
Maidstone residents enjoyed a fun packed day at a new community centre in the half term holidays.
We joined together with the YMCA Maidstone to hold an open event at the new community centre in Tovil. Local families were kept entertained by taking part in arts and crafts and face painting as well as watching karate and Pilates demonstrations. Kent Fire & Rescue Service came along with a fire engine, which the children loved, and residents were able to have a free health check from the Health MOT Bus.
The new Community Centre in Barfreston Close replaces a dilapidated Children’s Hut, and now provides a pre-school, training opportunities and space for social groups and sports activities. The centre was the outcome of an innovative partnership between the two organisations; the development was built by Golding Homes and is being managed by Maidstone YMCA.
Lynda Dale, Chief Executive Officer at Maidstone YMCA said: “The new centre has been an ambition of the YMCA Maidstone for many years and the community finally have a community asset that will provide excellent services for children, youth and family engagement.”
Helen Critcher, Community Development Advisor at Golding Homes said "This event was about opening the doors and inviting the whole community to see what the new centre has to offer. We want to engage with local residents and show them that the new Community Centre is theirs to enjoy".
