Much needed festive cheer has been delivered to young carers across Kent this December, thanks to a donation of Christmas hampers from Golding Homes.

Golding Homes donate Christmas food hampers each year to a local charity chosen by its employees. This year colleagues from the Maidstone housing provider, voted for Crossroads Care Kent to receive the festive fayre.

Crossroads Care Kent is a leading charity providing support to carers and the people they care for. Their Young Carers Project provides regular group meetings and activities outside of school time for carers aged 5 to 17. This project celebrates and recognises the role these young people take on, in their families.

Jan Hall, Young Carers Project Manager at Crossroads Care Kent said: “Crossroads Young Carers Project are so grateful to Golding Homes for choosing us as their charity to receive Christmas hampers this year.

“2020 has been such a difficult year for us all. Many of our families, who have a range of health issues, have struggled and a number have had to self-isolate to keep themselves and their loved ones safe.”

Golding’s Director of Operations, Annemarie Roberts recently paid a socially distanced visit to Crossroads Care Kent to hand over the hampers. She said: “This year has proved especially challenging for everyone, so it’s more important than ever to support our local community.

“Charities like Crossroads provide vital support and care to the community all year round. We know the charity supports many of our customers and it is our pleasure to be able to show our support with these hampers, for the fantastic work Crossroads and their young carers do.”

Helen Critcher, Community Investment Lead at Golding Homes said: “Crossroads are an amazing local charity that have adapted their weekly group sessions by delivering them digitally in order to help their young carers have some normality this year. We hope that the hampers bring a little happiness to families over the festive season, and we wish them a very, merry Christmas.”

The Christmas hampers include items such as mince pies, a selection box, seasonal fruit and biscuits. Golding was also able to support local businesses by purchasing some of the festive items from independent retailers, including Christmas cake from The Swan restaurant in West Malling, which has adapted its service during lockdown.

On receiving the hampers from Golding, Jan said: “To deliver a little festive cheer with these delicious hampers that the whole family can share, will be such a boost. this Christmas. Thank you, Golding Homes.”

Golding has donated Christmas food hampers to local charities for the last 11 years. To find out more about Golding’s community work visit our community page
