Going the Extra Mile during lockdown
Meet Dan, The Family Mile Man, dubbed by one follower as Kent’s answer to Joe Wicks! Dan is providing regular online content for The Extra Mile, an initiative by the Mason Foundation and Wellbeing People to help support people and improve wellbeing during the Covid-19 lockdown.
The Extra Mile, sponsored by Golding Vision, provides daily online content on physical activity, nutrition, and lifestyle tips via its Facebook page. It’s a new initiative aimed at supporting people through this challenging time and follows on from the popular Mason Mile which encourages families to come together and take regular exercise.
One Golding Homes resident who has signed up online and is already benefitting from the Extra Mile is Nicola Casson, currently in lockdown with her six children. She said: "I love The Extra Mile posts on Facebook by The Family Mile - they are really informative and great to keep the children exercising at home during this awful time. It keeps them motivated and they love trying different activities!"
Popular content so far has included the toilet roll squat challenge, how to make your food go further, scatter race family challenge and of course kids favourite Gerald the Giraffe.
“The Extra Mile has something for everyone to help you through those difficult days when you might be feeling alone, we’re aiming to help people stay fit and active in both body and mind,” explained Dan Rhys Porter, The Family Mile Facilitator.
“Last week we did fitness for parents and toddlers and this week we had Steve Brown, former Paralympic wheelchair rugby player doing a session on wheelchair exercises.”
Specialist teams of Nutritionists, Lifestyle & Physical activity advisors combine to create fun activities, workouts and top wellbeing tips to help Kent communities keep active and well at a time when health and wellbeing are more important than ever.
Head of Community Development for Golding Homes, Caroline McBride said: “We are delighted to be working together to reduce loneliness and improve overall physical and mental health for our residents. We want to encourage people to follow “The Family Mile” on Facebook and join in going The Extra Mile to improve your wellbeing.”
Golding Vision is the community development arm of Maidstone-based landlord, Golding Homes.
