Groundbreaking event held at Shepway regeneration site
Last week, councillors and local business owners had the chance to visit our flagship regeneration project at Cambridge Crescent in Shepway.
The symbolic groundbreaking event was a chance to introduce stakeholders to the project contractor, Skillcrown , discuss future plans for the development and showcase the progress made on site so far.
Guests includ ed Shepway Ward Councillor Maureen Cleator , Maidstone Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing and Homelessness, Councillor Simon Wales, officer s from Maidstone Borough Council as well as representatives from local businesses including Co-op, Fusion Healthy Living and The Vine Church.
Over three phases, our multi-million-pound investment in the area will see 114 existing homes and shops replaced with 236 new, energy-efficient affordable homes and a modern shopping area, improved landscaping and community facilities .
Skillcrown' s now completed demolition on site of phase 1 and is ready to start work to deliver 119 of the new homes, made up of 91 one- and two-bedroom flats and 28 two- and three-bedroom houses, and four commercial units in the first phase of the regeneration.

“This is a significant investment project for us in our core area of Maidstone. A longside our development partner, Skillcrown , we’re looking forward to delivering new, high-quality affordable homes, shops and facilities that are much-needed .
“ The project extends beyond bricks and mortar and we’ re working to maximise the social impact of our investment through close work with six local schools . We' re also planning an open day in September to promote employment opportunities on the development for the local community."
