Hanna and Hope spend first Christmas in new home
Key worker, and new mum Hanna, welcomes us into her family’s new home with a warm smile that’s a perfect complement to baby Hope’s joyful giggle of greeting. This will be their first Christmas in their new home.
The family, including dad Kyle, moved into the lovely two-bedroom, three storey new build from Golding Homes during the summer and are thrilled to be making the space their own.
Hanna said:” It’s really nice to be given the opportunity to have a brand-new build. It’s just ours and knowing nobody else has ever lived here is wonderful and exciting. We appreciate how lucky we are for this chance for a new beginning - our forever home.”
Originally from Gravesend, Hanna moved to be closer to her dad and step mum. She and partner Kyle, registered on the housing list, renting single roomed properties until, due to their local connection and with the birth of Hope fast approaching, they secured a nomination for the Golding Homes new build.
The house is one of 9 affordable rent properties built on the site of derelict garages in an area of Maidstone. The development which features a mix of 2 and 3 bed houses, is not only ideally situated for work for both Hanna and Kyle, it has the added advantage of being close to the support of family, from Hanna’s dad and step mum, who live nearby.
Currently on parental leave, Hanna hopes to return to work at a local hospital in a few months. After challenges with sustained employment early into the pandemic, Kyle has secured a job as a delivery driver. Hanna recalls the testing times of balancing the finances of meeting the needs of their growing family, new baby, and new home. She said: “When we first moved in there were times when things were hard, Golding Homes helped us work out an agreement so we could keep up our rent payments.”
The couple moved in soon after Hope was born and have quickly settled in. Hanna said: “We have rented some very unpleasant places where I didn’t feel safe. Living here is so different, the houses are lovely and there are other families we can chat with. Due to the Covid-19 rules we couldn’t visit before moving in, we had to do a virtual viewing and that doesn’t give you a real sense of the size. Actually, moving in was a great surprise as everything feels bigger, there is sense of space which is really nice. It feels really good to be here creating a home for Hope where she has her own room to do whatever she wants.”
Hanna confesses that she loves being at home with Hope so much it will be difficult returning to work in the New Year. “We’ve settled into a nice routine, and it will be hard to go back to work. The great thing is that work is only about a 15-minute drive away now and that will make things much easier. I’m very happy here,“ she adds.
Since moving in Kyle, Hanna and Hope have added a new member to the family, 11-week-old kitten Minnie.
