What are Carbon Monoxide alarms?
Carbon Monoxide alarms, also known as CO alarms, start sounding if they pick up any signs of an odourless, colourless and tasteless gas which can come from your appliances and lead to poisoning if not dealt with.
What noise does a CO alarm make?
The alarm will sound loudly and continuously until it’s checked. Please don’t ignore this sound as this could be a sign that something is wrong. If the alarm sounds you should immediately ventilate your home, by opening a window and call Southern Gas Networks on 0800 111 999.
Why is it so important to act if you hear a CO alarm or smell gas?
This could be a sign that there is an issue with an appliance or gas supply to your home. Incomplete combustion, which is the incorrect mixture of gas and oxygen causes the poisoning gas. This is called carbon monoxide which can be very dangerous if left.
