Kent Bright Spark Awards

On Friday 1 July, a member of our Community Development Team, attended and helped judge the ‘Dragon’s Den’ style final of the Kent Bright Spark Awards, organised by the KM Charity Team. Ten teams made it through to the final, including 2 state schools.
The overall winners of the competition were a team from Tonbridge Grammar School for their ‘Falcon’ project. Their project involved designing, encoding and manufacturing a flight simulator which could accommodate people with disabilities and give them an accurate experience of flying an aeroplane. They won the grand prize of £500.
There were 6 Experience Prizes to be given out and Golding Vision was pleased to award theirs to the team from Cornwallis Academy for their ‘Super Storage’ project. This project consisted of designing and manufacturing items of furniture that provide innovative solutions to storage problems. One of their designs is a drinks carrier that can be attached to a wheelchair, and includes the use of a gimbal so will help prevent spillages.
Our colleague said “The day was a resounding success! It was fantastic to see so many innovative ideas presented with such passion and conviction from a varied age range all over the county. It was a privilege to be a part of such an inspiring event, and hopefully next year we will have even more entries.”
The Experience Prize awarded by Golding Vision is a day working within our Regeneration Team, participating in a design masterclass, visiting a regeneration site and observing and possibly participating in the demolition of one of our next projects.
