Local resident makes a clean sweep
If Golding Homes had an award for resident cleaner of the year, then Christine Rogers would win it hands down.
The mum of four has lived at Lamberhurst House in Tovil for the last eight years and has made it her mission every day to ensure the communal area in her block of flats is kept clean and tidy.
Christine’s daily routine includes: cleaning the outside paths, sweeping the inside hallway, picking up any rubbish, as well as assisting residents with their recycling and cleaning the bin area.
To avoid litter dropping she has even introduced a rubbish basket and broom within the communal area for residents and visitors to pick up any unwanted litter, which has made a huge difference.
This military style clean up comes from her time in the German Army Barracks whilst her husband served in the Army. Miss Rogers spoke about how it was the residents’ responsibility to keep their communal areas clean. She said “We would have a one person on, one person off approach to cleaning our areas. This should definitely be implemented here as it brings lots of benefits.”
Her efforts have not gone unnoticed as visitors often comment on how clean the area is including Golding Homes’ Assistant Technical Administrator, Tracie O’Brien who was inspecting Lamberhurst House for repaint work when she first met Miss Rogers. Tracie said “She has really made an impact on me and I was so impressed with how well she cleans and tidies even with all of her medical conditions. She really does go above and beyond and is an inspiration to us all.”
Miss Rogers is keen to encourage her fellow residents to take pride in maintaining the communal area. She said: “We all live here and it should be nice and clean for our visitors. It personally makes me feel better and I like to see the area clean and tidy. Since I started with the cleanup, more residents are now taking care of the communal area, which is great to see and it makes me very happy.”
