Our Tenancy Support helps residents save money

Staff sitting talking together in office April 2020

Our Tenancy Support Team provides advice, guidance, and advocacy to our residents, where they may be at risk of failing their tenancies.

They are able to support our customers with benefit assessments, helping with benefit claims, reviewing budgets, doing comparison checks on energy suppliers, and providing debt advice on priority bills.

Since April 2019 our team has helped customers claim £503,131 in benefits and saved them £13,650, by making small changes such as moving energy provider.

One resident was over the moon when she was able to move home due to clearing her arrears through our Tenancy Support Service.  The resident, whilst working on a fixed-term contract, admitted that managing her money was not her strongest asset. Along with large rent arrears, she also had significant debt. Due to poor health, her employed hours were reducing and ultimately she left employment. Our team was on hand to assist with making a claim for Universal Credit and council tax support. An application for a Discretionary housing payment was also submitted and successful, helping to clear £1000 off her arrears. The team was also able to assist the resident in making an application on Kent HomeChoice to support with a downsizing move.
