Kent Police have informed us of three burglaries that have taken place in Maidstone targeting elderly residents. The distraction burglaries took place in Disreali Close, Courtenay Road and Woolley Road within the last 5 days.

The two men are described as white, aged 20 to 30-years-old and wear dark smart clothing. At one incident one offender was reported to have a moustache and the other had a goatee beard.

Investigating officer PC Michelle Marshall said: `In all three incidents, the victims have been elderly and so we are asking friends and relatives of elderly residents to make sure they are aware not to let cold callers into their home without checking they are legitimate.'

Other ways you can protect yourself include:
- Ensuring rear doors and windows are shut and locked when answering your front door
- Considering fitting extra security measures such as spy holes, door chains, door locks and intruder alarms
- Always checking the ID of cold callers - a door chain or spy hole will help you do this without letting anyone into your home. Don't be afraid to turn people away.

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to contact Kent Police on 01622 604100. Alternatively contact Kent Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555111.

We advise all of our residents to be extra cautious and alert.
