Superhero resident brings joy to local children
A Maidstone resident is playing superhero to children across the country by creating free special celebratory messages from their favourite characters, during Coronavirus lockdown.
Golding resident, Phil Montague, is part of a national Facebook group that creates free video messages for children to help them celebrate their birthday or a special occasion.
“We provide videos all year round, but they seem even more important now during these difficult times. It can be tough for children who have birthdays during the lockdown”, said Phil. “Normally they might celebrate with parties, and friends and family but being in lockdown means they don’t have the opportunity to do this. Creating these videos helps to bring a smile to their face and make their birthday special.”
The Facebook group, called ‘Free Character Video Messages”, creating the videos, dressing up as a variety of different characters, including Superman, Cinderella, Batman, Dalek, Wonder woman, Mary Poppins, Harry Potter and more.
Phil who dresses up as Dumbledore from Harry Potter, Gandalf The White from Lord of the Rings, and Father Christmas, said: “I have been involved in the group for many years now. I really enjoy creating the videos and bringing some happiness to children all across the UK”.
Parents and carers can organise a video message for their child by visiting the ‘Free Character Video Messages’ Facebook page and providing a few simple details, such as the preferred character, the date of the occasion and the child’s name.
Caroline McBride, Head of Community Development said: “We called Phil as part of our welfare checks on residents and were excited to hear about how he is helping people during these challenging times. The work that Phil is doing for children is amazing. He is bringing happiness to others in very difficult circumstances; he really is a hero.”
