Supporting Literacy & Green Travel in Kent Schools

KM Charity Awards Leeds Castle Nov 16

We were delighted to attend the KM Charity Team Awards last week, helping to recognise and celebrate literacy and green travel in Kent Schools.

Schools that came top or most improved for reading or walking to school were recognised for their hard work and presented with free entry tickets to Leeds Castle. The winning classes beat hundreds of others at a KM Challenge Day held in October.

As a supporter of the KM Charity Team initiatives Golding Homes was invited along to the awards celebration at Leeds Castle. Caroline McBride, Head of Community Development, said: "Supporting Health & Wellbeing is something Golding Homes is keen to be involved in. These initiatives encourage children to read and support lifelong learning and to stay healthy and safe through the walk to school initiative. We are delighted to be a part of this helping to make a difference within our schools".

The children's enthusiasm in these initiatives was lovely to see. One Kingsnorth Primary School pupil said: “I like reading because it can keep you entertained for a long time and I think it’s good to do rather than having your nose two inches from a screen. You can learn new vocabulary and have fun at the same time.”

Simon Dolby from the KM Charity Team said: “It is always inspiring to meet the children making such a success of our walk to school, road safety and literacy schemes.”
