Golding Homes new Chief Executive, Gary Clark recently paid a visit to the new Tolhurst Way development in Lenham, to celebrate Rural Housing Week which runs from 3-7 July.

The small  development of 24 homes, situated in the heart of the village, is being built on the site of the former Lenham United Reform Church, and is part of a new joint venture scheme  between the Maidstone based housing association and  local  developer Akehurst Ltd.

The homes range from two bedroom to five bedroom properties with five of the three bedroom homes being available at affordable rent for local people, and a further five properties for Shared Ownership.  The remaining 14 homes will be sold privately through Akehurst Homes Ltd.

The Tolhurst Way development is one of a number of small rural developments built by Golding Homes to help provide affordable housing for local people living in the surrounding villages. Visit our Facebook page to see some progress photos of the development.

Chris Blundell, Director of Development and Commercial Services said: “This is our first joint venture scheme and we are really delighted to be working with Akehurst Homes on this prestigious rural development.  The scheme is in the heart of the village, within the conservation area, and so particular attention has been paid to ensure the scheme fits in with the traditional architecture of the village, with high quality brickwork and external joinery, and plain tiled roofs, with the homes arranged to suggest an evolution of traditional cottages and short terraces.

“As a housing association we are firmly committed to providing quality affordable homes for people living in our rural communities and any profits we make through the sale of these homes will be ploughed back into building new affordable homes for local people.”

James Lench, Director of Akehurst Homes Ltd said:  “We are delighted to be working with Golding Homes in the delivery of this quality housing scheme within the beautiful village of Lenham.”

This development, which is due to for completion in November 2017, forms part of Golding Homes’ ambitious plans to build a minimum of 200 new homes a year across Kent.

Golding Homes will be joining forces with housing associations up and down the country to celebrate National Housing Week from 3- 7 July to highlight how new housing can breathe life into rural communities.

The National Housing Federation, which represents the work of housing associations and campaign for better housing, recently identified strong support for new housing in rural England.  Almost two thirds (65%) of rural residents back new homes in their area if they are affordable to local people on average incomes.1
