We support Gas Safety Week

Gas Safety Week logo 2020

Gas safety is important all year round, but it is not always a household’s top priority. This is why Golding supported Gas Safety Week from 14-20 September; a national campaign coordinated by Gas Safe Register to create awareness and highlight the importance of being gas safe.

The Gas Safe Register states that 1 in 5 homes in the UK contain unsafe gas appliances and it is important for people to protect themselves and loved ones by getting clued up on gas safety, familiarising themselves with the signs and symptoms of unsafe gas appliances.

At Golding, we take gas safety in our customers' homes extremely seriously and are required by law to carry out an important gas safety check in your home each year.

We will usually book an appointment with you six weeks before your annual gas safety certificate runs out.  If a problem is found during your gas safety check, we will inform you and work to repair the problem as quickly as possible. Within 28 days of the check being completed, we will provide you with a copy of the gas safety check certificate for your records.

Allowing us access into your home to carry out the check is part of your tenancy agreement. Failure to allow access to complete this service could put you and your family at risk and may result in legal action.

Please inform us in advance of any appointment if you or anyone in your home is self-isolating or showing symptoms of Covid-19. We will work with you to rearrange the appointment.

All our operatives are registered gas engineers and therefore qualified to carry out the Gas Safety Check. They all carry Gas Safe Registration cards with them, and will happily show you on request.

If you think your gas safety check is overdue or you’re not sure when you last had a gas safety check please contact us on 0300 777 2600.

Here are some top tips to stay gas safe:

  • Know the six signs of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning – headaches, dizziness, breathlessness, nausea, collapse and loss of consciousness. Unsafe gas appliances can put you at risk of CO poisoning, gas leaks, fires and explosions.
  • Check gas appliances for warning signs that they are not working properly e.g. lazy yellow flames instead of crisp blue ones, black marks or stains on or around the appliance and too much condensation in the room.
  • Fit an audible carbon monoxide alarm. This will alert you if there is carbon monoxide in your home. These should be fitted to all floors in the home. Please also refer to manufacturer's instructions when installing these
  • Keep vents and chimneys clear. Make sure you don't block any vents, as they are vital to ensure gas appliances burn properly, and chimneys need to be cleaned and checked regularly.
  • Use gas appliances only for their intended purpose. Don't be tempted to use them for something they weren't meant for (e.g using a gas cooker to heat a room).
  • Know the emergency procedure. If you smell gas or suspect immediate danger, make sure you familiarise yourself with the emergency procedure and contact the relevant number for your UK region.
