Going away?

If you’re going away for short trip or holiday, it's important to think about the safety of your home while you’re away. As well as making sure your home’s secure – like locking all windows and external doors and keeping valuables out of sight – it’s also really important to reduce the risk of fire while your home’s unoccupied.

Here’s a simple checklist to go through before a holiday:

  • Turn off and unplug electrical devices that don’t need to be kept on
  • Turn off all gas appliances
  • Test your smoke alarms
  • Close all internal doors (if a fire does occur, this keeps it better contained)
  • Make sure a trusted friend, neighbour or relative has a spare key, so access can be gained if needed.

Now you can relax and not worry about your home while you’re away!
