Beware of employment scams

Beware of employment scams

Fraudsters are posing as legitimate employers and recruitment agencies and posting fake job adverts online, as well as sending out messages via WhatsApp and text. They use enticing offers, such as attractive salaries and flexible working conditions, to lure people. Once contacted, victims may be asked for personal details like their Passport or National Insurance numbers, bank details, as well as upfront fees. The fraudsters claim it’s to check right to work status, complete Police checks and to verify people for an interview.

Here’s what you should do if you encounter anything suspicious:

  1. Stay Alert: Be cautious of unexpected calls, WhatsApp messages, and texts.

  1. Verify directly: Contact the recruitment agency or employer directly using a telephone number from their official website.

  1. Report Scams: If you suspect a scam, report it to Action Fraud via 0300 123 2040/ www.actionfraud.police.uk

  1. Check job listings: Report suspicious job vacancies to the jobsite

  1. Trust your instincts: If an offer seems too good to be true, it probably is.

  1. Don’t share personal info: Refrain from giving out personal information until you’ve verified the contact’s authenticity.

Stay vigilant and protect yourself
