Water Safety

Legionella is a type of bacteria found naturally in freshwater and can cause serious illness. You can get Legionnaire’s disease from taps and showers that are not used very often.

When you first move into your home or if you’ve been away from your house for a long period of time, we recommend that you run the bath and hand basin taps continuously for at least five minutes. This will flush
through any bacteria.

If your shower has not been used for a week or more, run water from both hot and cold supplies through the shower for two minutes. Also, try to regularly clean and de-scale shower heads and hoses.
